‘Abstract Storytelling’ is the first solo exhibition by London artist Steven King. These new drawings, made over the past year, are at times intricate and meticulous and at others bold and expressive. The work in the exhibition shows the contemplative nature of the artist who is continuously examining his position; temporally, geographically, and artistically. Inquisitive and reflective in tone, they are a means to translate ideas into something tangible, through a careful, if nonsensical, combination of observation and invention. The drawings progress, a nod to Hogarth and his use of sequential storytelling, and explore the expression of the self; excitable, suggestable, and sobering.

Steven has exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists and the Pastel Society, and has been selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Columbia Threadneedle Prize. He has spent time living in the Caribbean and various locations across Europe, which provided inspiration for the work in the exhibition.
