A monumental year for the British literary calendar, 2016 marks a number of iconic anniversaries such as 400 years since Shakespeare’s death and 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl. As part of the wider celebration of Literary Greats at Broadgate this spring, on Saturday 14th May Broadgate Circle will commemorate much-loved author Roald Dahl by hosting a fantastical family fun day inspired by his works.
Bringing literature to life in a new way for children, the free event will see Broadgate Circle transformed into a whimsical wonderland from 11am to 4pm. Families can drop in to take advantage of immersive storytelling and imaginative games, as visitors are regaled with snippets from some of Roald Dahl’s beloved books.
A candy-cane walkway will lead to the outdoor literary den, where creative mask and hat- making sessions will keep little hands busy and allow children to bring the stories to life for themselves, resulting in a magical keepsake to take home as a reminder of the day. A sweetie forest where candy grows from paper trees will sit alongside crafty mask-making sessions and spectacular science displays.
Renowned for its wide range of dining options, Broadgate’s restaurants will offer exclusive children’s menus in celebration of the family fun day. Ideal for those with little ones, children will eat free on Saturdays at Aubaine Broadgate Circle when accompanied by an adult. Not only that, the children’s menu will offer a child’s main, followed by the new and naughty chocolate cake for dessert. Elsewhere, Shoryu Ramen will offer all children under 12 a free glass of Calpico – the soft drink loved by children across Japan – and two-for-one on its popular steamed buns with any ramen.
Additional literary-inspired dishes will also be on the menu throughout May, complementing the spring events series. Discover the delights of Moby Dick’s Clam Chowder at resident seafood expert Crab Tavern and Don Quixote’s duelos y quebrantos - scrambled eggs with chorizo and pancetta - at Jose Pizarro.
