An exciting collaboration celebrating Rich Mix ten year anniversary with Qarammi Soul, Funk, Punk and message of peace in/for our times.

A night of funk, Punk, soul and afro-grooves heading back as far as the 70s with Numbi's eclectic DJ PETE ON THE CORNER, spoken word with resident Numbi poets Sai Murray, Elmi Ali + special guests including Mr Gee Urban poet and spoken wordsmith.

Then join Rashid Mohamed Shabeleh and Numbi Resident artist & poet Elmi Ali for a panel discussion on Oral History and Romantic Poetry.

Dur Dur International Band will take the stage with a special set featuring funky renditions Elmi Bodheri's romantic poetry and DurDur's classic shake-your-tail-feather tunes, journeying from the 70's to the present and beyond!

Dur Dur International Band – "Dur Dur" also means spring in Somali, it’s the name originally taken by 80’s Muqdisho funk, disco, soul band that was later disbanded in the 90’s. Dur Dur London Branch is a revival band paying homage to the original. Founded by Mr Cabdillahi Cujeeri and armed with a repertoire of funky oldies and contemporary compilations of the best in Somali funk.

Numbi FUNK-A – “Fanka", is Somali for art including poetry and song, which have no obvious distinction in Somali orature. Numbi Funk-A is an 80’s Somali Funk Revival Project In Collaboration with DurDur INT London Based Band.

Numbi - Nurturing local and global conversations collaboratively creating platforms to celebrate diverse voices producing workshops, events and SCARF literary arts magazine and Numbispace. An ongoing research project investigating contemporary arts practice from pre-civil war Somalia to the present day Diaspora.

Celebrate Life Events aim to create unity through diversity with music and film.

+ There will be a free family event during the day 2pm - 6pm..

A family-friendly celebration of love and peace through music and storytelling. We kick off at 2pm with DJ PETE ON THE CORNER, followed by Intergenerational Story Telling and participatory drum circle, song and dance facilitated by Numbi's Resident Artists and Special Guests.
At 4pm we will launch Ma Dhabaa Jacayl Waa Loo Dhintaa, a book tracing the Epic Love Story of Somali Romantic Poet Elmi Bodheri by Rashid Mohamed Shabeleh + an interview with the author and a book signing.

At 5pm we will screen a short video "Stories for Peace", featuring the message of International Peace Ambassador, Prem Rawat, followed by DJ PETE ON THE CORNER for an hour long boogie down.

Also includes traditional food, craft and book stalls (including Xalwo Crafts, a collection and celebration of Somali heritage.)
