What impact has independence had on both Caribbean people and European colonial rulers?

If independence marked the end of an abusive relationship between Caribbean people and European colonial rulers, what mark has independence left on individuals – on their minds and bodies – in the decades that followed? In a panel discussion chaired by Colin Grant, Gary Younge interrogates his family’s and Barbados’s history to reveal and distill the powerful effect of independence; Melanie Abrahams reflects on its legacy and impact on the self-autonomy of Caribbean descendants in England; Anita Sethi casts a personal gaze on the hidden stories in Caribbean history; and Dr Raj Persaud playfully puts the panel in the psychiatrist’s chair to probe their sense of independence.
