Discovering the Qur'an - CPD Accredited Short Course

“READ! in the Name of your Lord”.

These were the first Revealed words of the Qur’an, sent down to the Prophet Muhammad over fourteen hundred years ago.

The historian would come to tell us the story in which Muhammad, in seclusion and meditation, at a cave just outside Mecca, had received the first few words of a book that would have a tremendous impact on the world of Arabic literature.

Known to his people, and his family as a simple man, with no formal education and no talent for rhetoric, Muhammad had just received the beginning of a book that would deal with matters of belief, law, politics, ritual, spirituality, and economics. What came as a shock to the masses is that it was composed in an ‘entirely new literary form’.

The popular historian Karen Armstrong states, “It is as though Muhammad had created an entirely new literary form…Without this experience of the Koran, it is extremely unlikely that Islam would have taken root.”

This is a half day (3 hours) session on how to approach the Qur’an, a copy of which you would have been given at the L1 course.
