Once in Fado is a timeless immersive experience in the world of fado - a journey of music, theatre, and gastronomy. While Fado is known as the traditional music of Portugal, it’s more than a style of music; it’s the spirit of Portugal itself, conjuring up the sun, the vineyards, the food, the drink, the sea, the culture. It’s something that can only be experienced live, with authentic Portuguese performers.

Once in Fado is one of a kind; a groundbreaking international production of fado musical theatre. The innovation will merge diverse strengths and apply the sensorial potential of British immersive theatre to the antique charm of Portuguese popular music. The Portuguese word fado originates in the Latin fatum, also known as fate. In Once in Fado, you will experience your own fado fate, and be completely immersed in a story of culture, music, and love.

Once In Fado completely transports you through space and time, taking you down the alleys of Alfama where you stumble across a casa do fado; there you will be wowed by the musical performance, and witness the ancient spectacle of drama and fado, in its purest, untainted, form. As in the real fado culture, you will be made to feel at home in the best Portuguese tradition.

Food will be available for purchase on the night courtesy of bespoke East-London Portuguese restaurant Taberna do Mercado, well known by Londoners with a fine palate, the food will be freshly served as in the real tabernas of Lisbon, all duly accompanied by the finest national wines from Portuguese Story, without missing out on custard cake from Café de Nata.
