Walthamstow Acoustic Massive (WAM) was created by Alison Jones and Dick Smith, two local, world class musicians, who wanted to provide a way for adults living in Walthamstow and surrounding areas to re-discover their love for music by teaching violin, banjo and ukulele. Funded by Arts Council England for 4 consecutive years, allowing singers and select professionals to join the troops, WAM has become a diverse orchestra with over 60 members from 8 - 80 years old, brandishing the motto, “It's never too late!” Known for their unique combination of instruments, distinctive arrangements, style and partnerships, WAM inspires players to rekindle their passion for music, boosting confidence and self-esteem. To celebrate their 5th anniversary, WAM will perform an eclectic programme of music and song at festivals across Waltham Forest this summer, including a dance performance from Tai Chi group Dao Lu and urban dance group X7eaven.
