What would be like if we could walk on clouds? What would be different, what would change?

Join us in a series of connected performances exploring clouds and Utopian daydreams; clouds workers mysteriously creating and undoing patterns on the riverside terrace during the day and an evening performance where you will enter a Utopian daydream among the clouds.

The naming of clouds invites you on a Utopian daydream through the clouds, bouncing off cumulus, crunching through icy cirrus; but a journey like this carries consequences. The weather has the power to reshape how we live and who we can be. Follow the journey on Twitter: @namingofclouds.

Philip Stanier is the Artistic Director of The Strange Names Collective and Head of Department for Performing Arts at the University of Winchester. The Collective have been making performances for 11 years working across contemporary performance and live art, exploring the gap between ideas and their manifestation in practice.

Penny Newell is a poet and PhD student based in the Department of English, King's College London. Her PhD thesis is a study of clouds, examining changing conceptualisations of clouds in historical and contemporary materials in the sciences, philosophy, literature, the visual arts and performance.

The naming of clouds is part of Paths to Utopia, a collection of new art works to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Thomas More’s inspirational book Utopia, taking place across King’s College London’s Strand Campus and Somerset House this summer.
