Bantu Arts is premiering Rudi Rudi Africa; a monthly showcase of African arts in London with music, dance, theatre and workshops, plus the frills and thrills of the colourful continent’s entertainment through an open mic extravaganza that will have both professionals and amateurs step up to share their favourite pieces of African entertainment from storytelling and folklore to poetry to dance and folk music or even playing an instrument

The maiden Rudi Rudi Africa evening, scheduled for August 27th, will begin with a dance workshop that is bound to rekindle our pride in the identity and diversity of our motherland. It will also be a good opportunity for those who are looking to diversify their dance style. All our workshop will be run by experts of who have built up immense experience in running similar activities in communities and schools across the UK. They will take you through the paces of the colourful, energetic African dance moves.

We are also privileged to be joined by London-based singer/songwriter Seby Ntege from Busoga in Eastern Uganda who will be performing live as our featured guest. Seby is a master of a variety of traditional Ugandan music instruments like akogo (thumb piano, a.k.a. kalimba), endongo (lyre), adungu (harp), percussion and Endingidi (a one-string fiddle). In UK, he is an ambassador of traditional Ugandan music. In his own words, his music is a marriage between Uganda, UK, and West Africa as a result of his multiple collaborations with other World Music stars.

The Open Mic is a platform for you to show what you have got; poetry, story-telling, singing, comedy, dancing, or it could be an instrument that you play. Let us show off!
The evening of African-themed entertainment will also include a segment that will include a stage thrilling musical from the premier Ugandan cultural troupe in UK, ACD Arts. ACD Arts have so far traversed the UK and Europe with their thrilling performances for various audiences. They will present a musical stage production ‘Love Goat in the Pearl’ which is a dramatization of the transition that the traditional courtship ceremony is going through towards a materialistic modern event.
Rudi Rudi Africa will be held every last Saturday of the month at Durning Community Hall, Forest Gate. It is organised by Bantu Arts.
