ART AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY
LONDON’s LARGEST ANNUAL OPEN-AIR ART FAIR

Urban Art 2016, is London’s largest annual open-air Contemporary Arts Fair.

The event features the usual bustling Art Fair along the length of the pavements with work hung on the railings along both sides of road. There will also be the more leisurely pedestrianised area where visitors can linger longer to study some stunning pieces of art. We will be repeating the success of our Street Art Area at the Brixton Hill end of the Avenue which will feature five giant white triangular walls to be sprayed live during the course of the weekend by some of the UK’s leading graffiti artists.

Now celebrating its fifteenth year, this well established event provides:
Affordable and credible exhibition space for new and established artists.
A creative showcase for South London artists.

Fund raising for local causes including our 2016 charity partners Holy Trinity School, Jubilee Primary School, Southside Rehabilitation project and the Anchor Group, all of whom will receive a percentage of the sales made during the weekend.

Over 2,000 pieces of work will be on display from over 200 artists ranging from the novice to the established and with prices to match this is an event for all art lovers.

Additional attractions for Urban Art 2016 include our mouth watering selection of food stalls selling Hot Mexican, Spicy Caribbean, Healthy Smoothies and some amazing coffee.

Urban Art was created in 2002 by Josephine Avenue resident and portrait artist Timothy Sutton who saw the railings in the street and realised it was a natural open air gallery. ‘I knew from experience the lack of affordable and credible exhibition space so this was a bit of a no brainer really.’

International print maker Stefan Gnosspelius, who has been exhibiting since 2002, added: “The atmosphere is always great and the feedback from the public is always very encouraging. It’s one of my highlights of the year and one of the reasons I love living in Brixton”.
