Dalloway Terrace, Bloomsbury’s idyllic terrace, will be celebrating Afternoon Tea Week by offering an exciting new take on the quintessential British tradition with a delicious Picnic Afternoon Tea.

Dalloway’s Picnic Afternoon Tea has been created by pastry chef Mariatu Kargbo taking inspiration from two great British institutions. Served from bespoke wicker picnic baskets on tables dressed with traditional handmade Foxford picnic blankets, highlights include: smoked salmon & crab rillette served on Dalloway Terrace’s signature Guinness bread, smoked corn-fed chicken in brioche, Valrhrona & pecan nut slice, Mascarpone & saffron cheesecake, refreshing Lemon & poppy seed posset and freshly baked plain & sultana buttermilk scones.

Mariatu recently joined the team at Dalloway Terrace, bringing with her a wealth of pastry experience, having previously worked at critically acclaimed establishments such as The Dorchester, The Lanesborough and The Berkeley.

To compliment this summer offering, Laura Apsit Livens, an independent British luxury hat designer, has combined the highest quality materials, contemporary design and traditional techniques to create a signature hat for Dalloway Terrace. The hats are available for guests to wear during their al-fresco experience, adding to the unique, photo-worthy surroundings offered at Dalloway Terrace.

Anna Russell, Duchess of Bedford in the 1830s and a former resident of Bloomsbury’s Bedford Square, is credited with first transforming ‘Afternoon Tea’ into a formal social occasion. The Duchess found taking an afternoon snack to be such a perfect refreshment that she soon began inviting her friends to join her. Afternoon Tea quickly became established and was welcomed into many middle and upper class households. Dalloway Terrace, named after the eponymous character created by Virginia Woolf, the legendary author whose name will forever be associated with Bloomsbury, is delighted to be continuing this quintessentially British tradition in the area.
