Opening night of the September JAM: JMI Festival of Jewish Arts and Music – September 2016

The Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra
Enescu Intermezzi, Op. 12
Malcolm Singer Chagall’s Violin (commissioned by the Trustees of The Yehudi Menuhin School to commemorate the centenary of Yehudi Menuhin’s birth)
Vivaldi Winter and Summer from The Four Seasons

A special evening of music in Yehudi Menuhin’s centenary year featuring an all-star line up to celebrate the glorious diversity of Lord Menuhin’s extraordinary legacy. From his inspirational collaborations with Ravi Shankar and Stephane Grappelli to his pedagogical philosophy, Menuhin was not just one of finest classical violinists of all time, he was one of a kind.

This concert, programmed by violinist and JMI Artistic Director Sophie Solomon, includes Tcha Limberger (violin), John Etheridge (original hot-club guitarist on Menuhin/Grappelli recordings), Dave Kelbie (rhythm guitar), Andy Crowdy (bass), Sheema Mukherjee (sitar) and Flora Curzon (violin), as well as featuring a Junior prizewinner of the Menuhin Competition london 2016 accompanied by The Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra. The Menuhin Competition is the world’s leading competition for young violinists, held biennially in a different global city. It attracts hundreds of entries from over 40 countries, choosing only 44 of the world’s very best young violinists to participate.

In the first half of the concert The Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra will perform music by Enescu (Menuhin’s teacher) and Singer, and two of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with one of the Junior Prizewinners of The Menuhin Competition London 2016.
