The competing claims of fiction and reality have provided, of late, one of the most heated and productive literary debates. Where do the boundaries between them lie? And who has the right, the ability, even the desire, to draw them? Alchemy: Writers on Truth, Lies and Fiction, published by Notting Hill Editions and with an introduction by Iain Sinclair, contains exciting contributions to the debate by writers such as Joanna Kavenna, Benjamin Markovits, Gabriel Josipovici and Anakana Schofield. Several of the volume's contributors will be at the shop to discuss the relationship between truth and fiction in an evening chaired by regular LRB reviewer Theo Tait.
