The 2016 Balham Food Festival Launches on Sunday 25th September with a Spectacular Streetfood event followed by a week of offers and events

This year's Balham Food Festival, sponsored by Places for People Leisure and The Dentist, Balham, takes place from Sunday 25th September to Sunday 2nd October and again showcases the town's extraordinary array of bars, cafes, restaurants and food and drink businesses, offering its residents and visitors a true taste of Balham.

The event launches with the luscious sights, smells and tastes of The Balham Banquet from 11am to 5pm on Sunday 25th September in Hildreth Street and Bedford Hill Place. Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy delicious streetfood and delicacies from around 50 local stallholders and restaurants, so the organisers recommend you arrive hungry!

Amongst other foodie favourites there'll be Nepalese dumplings; artisan scotch eggs; craft beers; award-winning curries; filled Yorkshire puddings; BBQ lamb; noodle soup; authentic crepes; Halloumi wraps; cakes, chocolates and desserts; shredded duck; unusual wines; slow-roasted pork belly baps and mackerel on toast. TV chef Jimmy Garcia will be there too, once again bringing his pop-up restaurant flair to Hildreth Street with a five-course tasting menu.

To entertain festival-goers while they eat, a professional stage will be hosting a full line-up of performances including the Balham Ukelele Society, Funky Dance Moves, contemporary choir Balhamonics, singer/songwriter Mark Sullivan and other bands courtesy of The Bedford. Meanwhile, over in the Likeminders Kids Zone, children will be kept thoroughly entertained by the Ministry of Giggles, face-painting courtesy of The Dentist and Dee Light's cookie-decorating classes.

Last year around 1000 people attended The Balham Banquet event and the atmosphere was electric.

Then comes Balham Festival Week from 26th September to Sunday 2nd October, six days of foodie events and offers located across Balham, including in-store tastings, cookery demonstrations, festival menus and restaurant discounts. The introduction of the Balham Food Trail will further help people discover the hidden depth of Balham's food and drink scene, with free or discounted tastings, accompaniments and treats putting the proverbial cherry on their culinary cake.

As the Festival approaches, full details of the trail, events and offers will be featured in the Essential Local Guide to the Balham Food Festival, on social media and on the festival website at Balhamfoodfestival.com.

Organised by Essential Local on behalf of The Balham Partnership and supported by Wandsworth Council, Palace Gate Estates, As Nature Intended, Waitrose and Harden's restaurant guide, the Balham Food Festival is designed to promote local food and drink businesses and encourage people to explore and discover Balham.

Essential Local's Richard Chumbley says, “We were absolutely delighted with our relaunch of the Food Festival last year and the feedback was amazing. This year's event, with a professional stage, even more childrens entertainment and the introduction of the Balham Food Trail, should be even tastier!"
