Portraiture in Themes
This series of six lectures will begin with an introduction to portraiture by exploring early representations of human likenesses and changes in ideals of beauty through time. It will inform on the ways in which a portrait can be read by recognising and interpreting various signs and symbols, and will focus on specific themes each week, including royal portraiture, marriage portraiture, portraits of children, self-portraiture and portraits of artists.
