As I mentioned on the 23rd, the first Sunday lunch gigs here were, for some years, Big Band gigs. Then, around 10 years ago, we started our monthly gospel gigs and in more recent years have expanded the format to include straight ahead vocal jazz. And it is two of our regular "Sunday lunchers" that we will be featuring today. Introduced to me by pianist Roland Perrin, Rachel Sutton is a singer of poise and sophistication. Relatively new to the Club I have to say she has impressed everyone who has heard her with her talent and charm, and it is great to have a representative of the next generation of singers coming through. And following Rachel will be a very old friend of the Club, Sarah Moule. I was particularly keen to ask Sarah to do the gig today as Sarah was the very first singer that I asked to perform a Sunday Lunch gig. Closely associated with the late, great, lyricist Fran Landesman Sarah has established herself as one of the great interpreters of Fran's songs on the international scene. Accompanied by a trio that also features pianist Simon Wallace (who over a 20 year period wrote most of the music for Fran's lyrics), this promises to be a quite wonderful gig. By the way, Fran in her later years performed at the Club with Sarah and Simon on a number of occasions, so as well as a celebration of our 40th this will also be a celebration and remembrance of one of the music community’s most enduring characters. “Rachel Sutton...impossibly glamorous” The Guardian; “Sarah Moule…subtle and intelligent vocalist… honeyed in sound, smooth in timing and pitch” The Guardian
