This December, at the heart of London, the sun-soaked Colours of Africa will come to life, warming our frosty days with Christmas cheer.

Redearth Education’s annual, charity exhibition is back, raising vital funds to improve education in rural Uganda. All profits raised will help empower teachers in remote communities and give children the best start in life. With little access to art materials or resources, this was one of the first opportunities for creative self-expression for many of these children. What they created was a mesmerising collection of visual stories, told though the mediums of paint, charcoal and pastels.

The stories we often hear about Africa are ones of hunger and suffering. Africa is so often painted as a place in need. But this is not the only story to be told. We welcome you to a different story, one of dreams and ambition, creativity and wonder. This is the story of Uganda’s children.

The Colours of Africa exhibition is one of self-expression, vision and hope. It captures an untouched, authentic view of village life in Uganda. It gives us a rare glimpse of this beautiful, African country through its children’s eyes. Delight at their innocence, at their unique approaches to colour and form, as they lead you down experimental, intuitive paths and out along Uganda’s hot, red marram roads. It is here that they walk to school for miles barefoot. 4 year olds to 15 year olds, all eager and all with such potential.

All profits raised from the sale of artworks will contribute to Redearth Education’s work in rural Uganda. The money raised will travel back to these children’s village schools through the training of their teachers. This means that their education, and that of their brothers and sisters, will continue to develop and improve, enhancing their life chances and helping their determined expressions of self finally come true.
