Return your broken electrical items to their former glory for free!

Recycle for London and The Restart Project are encouraging Londoners to bring along any electrical items in need of repair to their local Restart workshop to give them a new lease of life for free.

There are 12 Restart events being held across London in October and November, to help Londoners save money and reduce waste by showing them how to make simple repairs to currently unused electrical items.

The workshops will address the fact that very few people currently repair their broken electrical items, meaning more and more are ending up in landfill sites when they could easily be given a new lease of life. Recent data for England, Northern Ireland and Wales shows that 0% of people repair their faulty irons, just 2% fix kettles, while desktop and laptop computers are only mended by 13% of people.

Personal electronics – such as mobile phones and laptops – are the items most likely to require fixing (46%), followed by large appliances (21%) and small kitchen electricals like kettles or toasters (17%). But rather than doing simple repairs to the items themselves, people are likely to either dispose of them or speak to the supplier to try and fix them. The most frequently discarded electrical items are kettles (69%) and microwaves (61%).

Londoners are encouraged to sign up to their local re-start workshop using the link below. All participants need to do is bring their electrical items and any chargers or power cords along to the event.
