The election of Donald Trump as president of the United State is an extraordinary political event, which will have far reaching global consequences. A corrupt right-wing casino operator and “Reality TV” entertainer, whose chief strategic advisor is closely linked to neo-fascist websites and organizations, will soon be in control of the most powerful imperialist state in the world. What accounts for this degradation of democracy in the United States?
