A steady presence on the London flamenco scene since the early 70s, Cadiz-born singer-guitarist Fernando Reyes retired from public performance in September 2016. The Peña Flamenca de Londres pays tribute to the much-loved artist with an homenaje featuring performances by many London-based flamenco dancers, guitarists and singers.

Gathering on Sunday 15 January at the Church Hall of the Holy Apostles, these artists will celebrate “one of them”, but also one of the longest standing presences on the UK flamenco scene. Reyes first appeared on a London stage in the late 60s, joining Los Paraguayos at the Royal Albert Hall. Having permanently moved in 1974, he then rarely stopped working, with performances with various London-based flamenco dance groups in venues and theatres across town, including the Royal Opera House as part of the staging of Bizet’s Carmen.

Reyes appeared at the Peña Flamenca de Londres in March 2016 as part of Una Noche con Maribel tribute to Maribel la Manchega.

Vera King, organiser at the Peña Flamenca de Londres, said: “Response from Fernando’s fellow professionals is almost total, so we expect this to be an amazing celebration, packed with top-notch performances.”

Among the artists confirmed to take part are dancers Samantha Quy and Anita La Maltesa, guitarist Tito Heredia, and singer Jasmine Villalobos.
