About The BIG Read

Join in the BIG READ and help bring a world record to London on world Book Day

The BIG Read is IF’s attempt to break the world record for the “most children reading with an adult” (Guinness Book of Records official title) creating the largest shared reading experience in the world!

In a 12- hour period between 3000 to 5000 children are needed to listen to an adult read Roald Dahl’s timeless classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. To qualify for the record a child only has to listen to an adult read for half an hour.

The current record stands at 3,032 achieved by The Kindergarten Starters school at Global Village in Dubai, UAE, on 12 November 2008.

Join a host of schools, celebrities, councillors, teachers and parents in this reading extravaganza promoting the importance of reading and literacy among children. If successful, participants will receive an exclusive World Record Breaking certificate.

Some of our confirmed readers include Victoria Brittain, George Galloway MP, 85 year old holocaust survivor Hedy Epstein, Baroness Pola Uddin and several stars from the BBC hit show, the Apprentice including Tre Azzam, Majid Nagra, Syed Ahmed, . Rizwan Hussain, Ajmal Masroor Channel S, Mohammed Ali Islam Channel, Mecca2Medina, Abdullah Rolle, Yusuf Chambers, Anas Altikriti, Yvonne Ridley, Leader of Tower Hamlets Council Lutfur Rahman, Cllr Ohid, Cllr Abdal Ullah, Cllr Rania Khan.
