Join us this summer to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Festival of Britain at Southbank Centre with MasterCard, with a four-month festival of British culture and creativity.

Visitors can go on a seaside holiday down by the river where a 70-metre urban beach and 14 artist-commissioned beach huts transform Queen’s Walk; take a stroll or relax at the bar/café in a new garden on the rooftop of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, created in partnership with the Eden Project; visit the British countryside and its wildlife, including a giant straw fox; enjoy traditional vintage funfair rides, including Austin cars and a helter skelter; and cool off in Jeppe Hein’s popular Appearing Rooms fountain.

Experience performances, talks, events, concerts and gigs by some of Britain's leading artists and thinkers.

Festival highlights include Ray Davies curating this year’s Meltdown (June), Tracey Emin’s first major survey show in London at the Hayward Gallery (18 May to 29 August), plus appearances by Lang Lang, Billy Bragg, John Berger, Meera Syal and Tony Benn. Themed weekends celebrate just some of the highlights of British culture – from Stewart Lee’s curated weekend of comedy and music (27 to 30 May) to Light Fantastic in collaboration with the BBC (24 to 26 June), a hip-hop weekend (14 to 17 July) and Vintage Weekend at Southbank Centre (29 to 31 July).

The Southbank is always such a lively place to be, and the addition of the Urban Beach (with water sounds effects from the Thames and real-life seagulls!) adds to the feeling of being on holiday, even if it is was a normal Thursday morning! The beach huts and outdoor seating from the various cafes and eateries makes for a really socialable, holiday atmosphere and the various displays, themes and artwork provide plenty of food for thought and topics for conversation. I love it here.

Why can't I comment? Was going to say what a joy it was to hear the children whooping with excitement in and out the water fountains at the Vintage Festival and what a visual feast! Are they still there?
