UK-wide open print exhibition opens at the SW1 Gallery from 28 July - 23 August 2011

The SW1 Gallery at Cardinal Place in Victoria is excited to announce the launch of Print & Design Now! 2011, a free exhibition of over 200 beautiful prints created by emerging artists and designers who represent the very best in contemporary print and design today.

Artists from across the UK submitted their work for selection by a prestigious judging panel lead by Mary-Alice Stack, Director of Own Art at the Arts Council England. Other judges included Julia Alvarez, Director, BEARSPACE, Owen Ward, Curator, SW1 Gallery, as well as Claire and Harry Page, Directors of Design House, Committee.

Held in conjunction with BEARSPACE, Print & Design Now! 2011 will debut at the SW1 Gallery at a private view on Thursday 28 July from 6.30-8.30pm. From the end of August, the exhibition will show at other London galleries before travelling to arts fairs across the UK.

Print & Design Now! 2011 will feature limited edition artwork from artists using a range of print methods and subject matter. Prices range from £25-£1,000, and budding art collectors will be able to snap-up portfolios of work selected by members of the judging panel.

Owen Ward, SW1 Gallery, commented: “I’d encourage everyone in London to take this rare opportunity to invest in original pieces by a new generation of artists who have been spotlighted by some of the UK’s most distinguished authorities on art and design. SW1 Galley has a long track-record of bringing art to Victoria that inspires visitors, residents and workers alike, and we look forward to continue working with the best emerging and established talent.”

Mary-Alice Stack, Director of Own Art, run by The Arts Council England, commented: “Printmaking is a fascinating and versatile medium, and provides an excellent way for people who are developing an interest in collecting contemporary art to acquire works by both well established and emerging artists."

This exhibition is supported by Land Securities, owners of the SW1 Gallery, and the Arts Council England's Own Art scheme, which provides interest free loans of up to £2,000 for young buyers of contemporary art.
