SEX IN THE CITY features a selection of photographs by French artist Olivier Coulange, from his series Eros Plastic: the successful metamorphosis of porn into art.

Pablo Picasso used to claim that there was no difference between art and eroticism. In Sex In The City, Coulange realises the transformation from shots taken from unsophisticated porn movies, into alluring and evasive sensual images.

Porn's crudity and vulgarity fades away under Coulange's blur, which acts as a sweetening veil to reveal only the feminine sensual moves that happen under sexual pleasure, allowing subtlety and beauty to prevail through nude floating apparitions, ecstatic pauses and feelings of “little death”.

Coulange’s work derives from original pornographic films, where specific images have been captured, blurred and transformed, turning them into a subtle and sensual play of shadow and light.
“I consider myself an iconoclast in the primary sense of the word, as I de-construct images and dogma. For me, breaking the images of pornography is an intellectual game, as I re-enchant industrial images. With Eros Plastic I am tracking unseen gems in those oceans of ugliness. It was my quest for beauty” says Coulange.

Olivier Coulange has been part of the renowned Agence Vu in Paris since 1992. His work has been published and exhibited worldwide, including at the Rencontres d’Arles, Visa pour l’image.

Sex In The City takes place from 16 November 2011 to 2 January 2012 on the 32nd Floor (Sky Lounge) of Nido Spitalfields, 9 Frying Pan Alley, London E1 7HS.
This is a contemporary space near Liverpool Street with a breathtaking view over the City.

The opening private view is on Tuesday 15 November from 6-9pm.

Sex In The City – Eros Plastic is curated by Virginie Puertolas-Syn.
