From next year, university tuition fees in England will triple to a staggering £9,000 per year. With mass demonstrations and violent clashes dominating the headlines, twenty eight students from the University of East London are voicing their own opinion, not through loudhailers and homemade banners, but through art.

In the third week of November, an exciting and fresh alternative to the debate is opening at the Rag Factory's OTR1 Studio in east London. '£9,000' is a new photographic exhibition that aims to provide a more constructive and visually potent assessment of the true value of education.

With twenty eight individual works of art and twenty eight individual points of view, the exhibition as a whole expresses no shared judgment on the subject matter. Instead it demonstrates the personal stance of each and every exhibiting student. All of whom are able to draw upon their own experience of university education, in order to convey a valid and forceful depiction of this contentious issue.

The work on display seeks to evaluate the cost of £9,000, but moreover it acts as a physical representation of the value too. With an asking price of £9,000, the exhibition itself is up for sale. The money will consequently be used to finance a university year for one lucky student. Is this really too much to ask? You be the judge!
