Lock Up II (behind bars)

This November, eight of the most prolific urban contemporary artists of our generation; Dan Baldwin, Pam Glew, Goldie, Chris Bracey, Mau Mau, K-Guy, Fin DAC and David Whittaker will come together to present their latest works at Lock Up II (behind bars).

The first Lock Up exhibition (November 2009) in central London was an instant success and featured work from Goldie, Nick Walker, Eelus and Jamie Reid alongside some of the names exhibiting in Lock Up II. Fans and buyers flocked to the show, including Tracey Emin, Gemma Arterton, the Stone Roses’ Ian Brown and magician Dynamo.

Curator Eddie Lock and creative agency Death by Daylight will join forces once again to produce this much anticipated exhibition at London’s Red Bull Studios. With the urban art sector’s popularity continuing to soar, Lock Up II (behind bars) will offer audiences the chance to view the work of some of the most renowned names on the scene, all in one location.

Lock Up II will present a distinguished roster of talent, from artists who are revolutionary pioneers in their field, like neon-ist, Chris Bracey who created some of the first ever neons including some for Stanley Kubrick films, to Goldie who is responsible for heavily instigating the graffiti movement in the 80’s. Moving at an accelerated speed is Dan Baldwin, known for his bold colour and abstract forms, which have recently manifested upon a series of vases. Pam Glew’s iconic portraits on bleached national flags have become her trademark, one of which recently sold at a US auction for $20,000.

Faithful street artist, K-Guy is renowned for his wry humour and staunch mocking of political and social systems which he channels in to his art work and public installations on the streets, whilst Mau Mau’s ever-familiar spray-painted characters are twinned with his anti-corporate stance and loyal support of environmental issues. David Whittaker’s paintings are ambiguous, non-specific portraits that portray calm and conflict, confidence and nervousness, hopes and fears, conscious and subconscious, male and female and Fin DAC, who is known for his incredible stencil techniques which have resulted in some strikingly realist portraits, (he is noted for his uncannily accurate portrait of Jimi Hendrix exhibited in London last year).

Each of the eight exhibiting artists have acquired and explored their own set of unique styles, subject matter, materials and skill. Lock Up II will demonstrate the talent they have individually cast upon the contemporary urban art domains, in the UK and internationally.
