City Chorus is looking for new singers in all voice parts and we are holding a special Open Evening at 6 pm on Tuesday, 10th January 2012 where potential members can meet the current choir, and sing with us for the evening.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays, 6.15 - 8.15 pm at the NatWest building, 1 Princes Street (EC2R 8BP), right next to Bank station (Exit 1).

Although we are a non-auditioning choir, some choral singing experience and music-reading ability would be an advantage, but is not essential, as all works are thoroughly rehearsed over the course of each term. Wherever possible, we make recordings or sound files available, to help with the learning process; and we also offer opportunities for individual vocal tuition with guest singing teachers. At least one piece per concert is performed from memory.

City Chorus performs a wide range of music, from sixteenth-century motets to modern choral compositions and arrangements, and presents 3- 5 concerts per year. In 2011 the choir performed the world première of Kerry Andrew's 'A Still Roar', which was specially composed for the choir’s 90th birthday. The choir has also raised money for The Prince's Trust, the NSPCC and the Rainbow Trust.

City Chorus programme for 2012:

Spring 2012:
One of the best- loved works in the choral canon, Vivaldi’s Gloria, presented alongside the London premier of Mass in F by Johann David Heinichen, Vivaldi’s contemporary and fellow- pupil of Bach
Summer 2012:
A programme of music connected to, or inspired by, sports and games- everything from madrigals to show- tunes, stadium songs to new compositions
Christmas 2012:
Our traditional carol concert- popular seasonal songs for choir and audiences,

The musical director of the choir is Paul Ayres, who studied music at Oxford University and who now works as a freelance composer & arranger, choral conductor and organist. In addition to conducting City Chorus, he is the choral director at the London College of Music (University of West London)
and is the associate accompanist of Crouch End Festival Chorus. Our rehearsals and performances are accompanied by highly regarded pianist and organist Philip Shannon (who has also worked with ENO, LSO, LPO and London Mozart Players) and our concerts also feature a variety of other top professional musicians.
