Julian says, "Visual images in the media have always drawn me in. At home we had the National Geographic on subscription, the Sunday Times Magazine every weekend, hard hitting images of Vietnam and Northern Ireland on the TV news and strong, creative ads in all mediums. My abiding memory of looking at these pictures was, 'How are they achieved?'."

Julian has taught at London College of Communication, Camberwell College of Art, plus other colleges.
