The Japan Society has organised the first European showing of Pray for Japan, a film that deals with the legacy of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. Following the anniversary of the disaster on Sunday, March 11, the film comes to the Princess Anne Theatre at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for one night only, on Wednesday, March 14.

Written and directed by Stu Levy, Pray For Japan focuses on four different perspectives of the tragedy that occurred on March 11, 2011. With each viewpoint (schools, shelters, families, and rescue volunteers) we meet the victims who faced significant obstacles and fought to overcome them in the aftermath of the most powerful known earthquake to have ever hit Japan.

“The in-depth, on-the-scene reporting in Pray for Japan is by turns enlightening, moving and inspiring. A Tohoku disaster volunteer himself, Levy finds wonderful, exceptional people among the victims and volunteers and tells their stories with insight and compassion.” - Mark Schilling, Variety Japan
