Ken and Kemi have come together to explore the constructs of collaboration. Ken an experienced artist of over 25 years and Kemi a recent art graduate, bring together ideas on intergenerational energy transference.
Ken asks the question “When I look at something as simple as a cardboard box, do I see the same thing as someone of an older generation, and in turn does an infant view it in a different way? Are we able to see and think outside our own box?”
Featured in the exhibition Ken and Kemi have painted a joint improvised piece, inspired by the 1971 song “Grandma’s hands” by Bill Withers. These lyrics typify the social role of intergenerational communication and reflect symbols of strength, love and the passing on of wisdom. In a climate where segregation of the different generations is common place, it is good to see these artists collaborating on a project that aims at drawing families closer together.
Alongside the exhibition,on Saturday 12th, 19th and 26th May, from 10am till 12.30pm there will be workshops, where families and friends can make joint creations and play group games on the theme expressed in “Young Meets Old” Lead by Ken McCalla with storyteller Eli Anderson and assisted by Kemi Murphy.
