Carlou D: A Charity Fundraiser

Carlou D and guests are performing in a one-off concert to raise funds for FORWARD's work and awareness of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. As a FORWARD ambassador Carlou D will be joining us straight from Senegal, a week before his performance at WOMAD festival, come along and support him, FORWARD, and special guests for an evening of music and entertainment.

“The part of hip-hop which I have kept in my music is the courage to be direct,” says Carlou. Born Ibrahima Loucard, in the suburbs of Senegal’s bustling capital Dakar, Carlou D started his musical career as a member of Positive Black Soul, the country’s first, and arguably most successful, hip-hop group. Singing of social issues and political situations mixed with deeply spiritual tones he takes you on a musical journey from jazz, acoustic roots, soul, to rap and spiritual chants.

Carlou D has an illuminating and energetic presence on stage. An exceptional guitarist with a pure voice and infectious sense of rhythm and soul, Carlou D is definitely one of Senegal’s greatest musical talents!
