Akademi presents Odissi Ensemble- Kalpavriksha

Saturday, 15 September 2012 - 2:45pm / Concert Level (-2)
Repertoire:
Nitin Sawhney Laugh, Daydream & Kite
Kronos Quartet Tashweesh (Interference)
Choreographer: Katie Ryan

Performer(s): Katie Ryan, Khavita Kaur Rendhawa
Originally created in response to the beautiful natural surroundings of South Hill Park, this dance piece celebrates the stability and vitality of trees and the backdrop that they provide to our daily existence. Reaching out in all directions to weave a canopy above and network below, they represent a link between the earthly and the spiritual and have become the focus of pilgrimage, thanksgiving and wish-making in many cultures.
The dancers use classical South Asian and Contemporary movement styles to explore the tradition of the Kalpavriksha as dreams take flight under the shade of its branches.
