Two collections of sacred relics of the Buddha and other Buddhist Masters, from the Maitreya Project Heart Shrine, are currently touring the world. The aim of the tours is to bring the blessings of the relics, with their message of loving-kindness, to as many people as possible, irrespective of culture, faith or religion. One of these collections will be exhibited at the Drukpa UK Buddhist Centre in London, from September 1 to 2.
Some of the relics have been donated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Burmese Meiktila Relic Museum, various Tibetan and Chinese monasteries, as well as Korean and Thai temples.
This is a rare opportunity to view these relics, many of which were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. They resemble pearl-like crystals in form and are deliberately produced by the master at the time of their death to give inspiration to their students and followers. As such they embody a master's spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom.
The relics are clearly visible inside display cases that are arranged around a life-sized, golden statue of the Maitreya Buddha. For those who want a more personal experience, individual blessing are available where the relics of the Buddha are gently placed on the head. It is common for visitors to report experiences of deep peace and inspiration in the presence of the relics.
