Robert Irwin explores Mediaeval Basra as part of this special appeal lecture for The British Institute for the Study of Iraq (BISI).

Author of the autobiographical Memoirs of a Dervish (“It was in my first year at Oxford that I decided that I wanted to become a Muslim saint”), For Lust of Knowing: The Orientalists and their Enemies; works on the Mamluk sultanate, the Alhambra, and The Arabian Nights, Irwin is an expert guide to the mediaeval Islamic world and this dramatic era of Iraqi history.

All the proceeds from the lecture will go towards BISI’s Appeal to re-train, re-equip and support cultural heritage professionals in Iraq.
