A piece finally re-attributed to Antonio Vivaldi, composer of the famous 'Four Seasons', in 2005 is to be performed for the first time in London in October 2012, in the acoustically resplendent church St James's Piccadilly.

The piece, discovered deep in the SLUB (library) Dresden had been attributed to little-known composer Baldassare Galuppi for the most part of its existence until Jan Stockigt and Michael Talbot decided that it was a genuine piece of Vivaldi, and one of his largest choral works to boot.

The work itself, in 10 movements is scored for strings, trumpet and SSATT soloists and chorus and is in 10 movements lasting about 30 minutes. Lush passages of typical Vivaldian string writing make way for virtuosic arias, and exciting and exhilarating choruses give this work credibility to be a genuine rival to the composer's famous 'Gloria'.

The group with the honour of giving this exciting work its' London premiere is Solistes de Musique Ancienne.

Formed in 2010 by Director Joel Newsome Solistes is made up of the best young professional instrumentalists and singers at the start of their careers from London and further afield.

The aim of the group is to shed light on lesser performed Baroque repertoire in a soloistic and modern way- no period instruments here! Minimal forces are used both to create a sense of intimacy and to allow players to shine in a way not usually associated with ensemble playing.

The concert will take place at the church of St James, Piccadilly on Thursday 11th October 2012 at 7.30pm. The programme will also include movements from Leclair's Deuxieme Recreation de Musique, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no.3 and Cantata BWV132, Bereitet die Wege and Allegri's famous Miserere mei, Deus.

In celebration of the occasion of this exciting work's performance and the group's second anniversary admission to this concert is free, although reserving seats is recommended and can be done by emailing [email protected].
