A&D Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by Sylvia Grace Borda. The Canadian artist’s projects develop in response to questions of value. Borda has developed strategies akin to those of her internationally renowned, Vancouver-based teachers and mentors, Jeff Wall and Ian Wallace, especially in the sense of conceptually “staging” the landscape.

Interrogations of the Camera, on view in the first two rooms, uses X-ray technology to create an archive of film cameras. The resulting images appear similar to a photogram, displaying a blueprint effect that illustrates all the camera's parts. Through x-ray technology, audiences are offered a privileged view from which to examine the camera - a view very often limited to security forces. The politics behind camera imaging and recording an historic film device through a non-optical means all becomes part of the ironic narrative and visual interrogation of the imaging medium.

As well as premiering Interrogations of the Camera the exhibition will include two other works: Beauty & Churches, giving further insight into Borda’s practice.
