In his debut London solo show Baltagiannis explores the dynamics of body and space through a repetitive photographic process, resulting in an unexpected and voyeuristic game.
Original photographs of intimate nature, and found images from the web are displayed on a computer screen. The artist then photographs the screen to witness the transition from the act of browsing to that of voyeurism. Reflections of the room along with dust, fingerprints and flickering backlights are all absorbed in the final picture. This process leads unavoidably to a new perspective, focus and staging where the original subject, the display, the viewer and his environment are becoming part of the same scene.
Baltagiannis is not only interested to record a process; through selection and repetition of fragments he attempts to compose a new architecture, where body and space blend, physics are not conventional and patterns are revealed. His images, often blurry and raw are intended to create layers of narratives and interpretations.
The exhibited artworks are monoprints; to reinforce the sense of intimacy and to celebrate the uniqueness of the process. The digital file is destroyed, once the image is materialised as a printed object.
