LOVE-NEST art exhibition by Hormazd Narielwalla

Margaret Street Gallery is celebrating Valentine’s Day with a show by Hormazd Narielwalla. Love – Nest is a culmination of two bodies of work created in response to masculine and feminine tailoring patterns. The artist, whose practice originates in Savile Row; makes unique collage artworks from discarded bespoke suit and shirt patterns of individual customers who are now deceased.

About the Artist: In October 2009, Sir Paul Smith presented Narielwalla’s first solo exhibition at his Mayfair gallery. He was also commissioned by the Crafts Council, England to make a piece for their National touring exhibit Block Party, showing along artists Yinka Shonibare, Charlotte Hodes and Dai Rees, curated by artist Lucy Orta. Narielwalla is also the author of The Savile Row Cutter, the Biography of Master Tailor of Dege & Skinner – Michael Skinner and Dead Man’s Patterns, a limited edition Artist book. The book was acquired by several art collections around the world including the Rare Modern British Collections at the British Library. His fascination of tailoring patterns earned him the only International Rector’s Scholarship from the University of Arts London to read on a PhD at London College of Fashion. His research focuses on exploring a new value for tailoring patterns by viewing them as historical documents and drawings in their own right, the British Raj being the context. 10 artworks from his research will be exhibited and hosted by Saatchi Gallery, London this summer as part of an invitation by the Crafts Council to participate during Collect 2013. Margaret Street Gallery and the research department of the University of Arts, London, are sponsoring his participation at Collect 2013.
