Yup, it’s sad but true …as we age, our metabolisms generally slow down …and the slower our metabolisms, the harder we find it to lose weight …and it can lead to weight gain too. Thankfully small tweaks and changes to our diets can make a huge difference…

Here are four easy ways to speed your metabolism up!

Tip #1 :: Eat small meals throughout the day You’ll encourage steady caloric burn and a consistent metabolism.

Tip #2 :: Choose healthy carbohydrates It’s definitely time to replace those refined, high glycemic- index (GI) carbs with whole foods which are unrefined and low-glycemic choices. In other words, steer clear of foods that have been manufactured in a factory and stick to real food. This’ll keep blood sugar levels steady and discourage fat storage.

Tip #3 :: Get a little spicy Black pepper, chili and ginger all boost the generation of heat in the body, which means that you’ll burn more calories …effortlessly!

Tip #4 :: Drink green tea Studies show that green tea contains an antioxidant called polyphenol which stimulates the body to help burn calories. Not all green tea tastes the same, so find your favourite. Mine is Che Maté!

and of course if you can squeeze some exercise, preferably weight-bearing exercise, into your day, that’ll speed things up a little too!
