The Mercury Prize nominees are in! And the winner is LONDON's music scene

London Art Scene from The Art Stop

Looks like two London classmates will be competing for the coveted Barclaycard Mercury Prize this year. The hugely talented James Blake will be taking on his pal (who is also jaw-dropping live by the way) Katy B for the title race - just twelve months after the pair studied at Goldsmiths College together.

The now-famous singers graduated in 2010 after completing the Popular Music BMus course at the university and they're now about to go up against some of the finest names in the industry like Adele, Tinie Tempah and Anna Calvi for the prestigous award - all of whom will be representing the London music scene.

But who will take the big gong? Well, we won't know until 6 September.

But what we do know is that despite this incredible selection of London artists being nominated, they will all still face a challenge from other top acts across the UK - including Manchester-based quartet Everything Everything (who recently dazzled at Latitude), a rapper from Coventry called Ghostpoet and Scot-duo King Creosoye and Jon Hopkins...

May the best album win!
