SIGHTS: The leaning tower of Big Ben

London Art Scene from The Art Stop

It's a landmark that people all over the world associate with our gorgeous City. And even after more than 150 years, Big Ben stands proud in Westminister amongst crowds of tourists, workers and politicians.

But today, we've heard that this spectacular engineering feat, which stands at a magnificent 315ft high, is actually leaning - a bit like the leaning tower of Pizza (although not quite as extreme).

Engineers surveying the famous spot say Big Ben's bell tower is 18inches off where should be and has taken a slight tilt due to all the heavy underground work taking place underneath it. Something, that unfortunately, can not be helped.

And although one day it could actually topple over, they say this won't take place for thousands of years, which means there is plenty of time to find a rescue solution.

But this is a reminder of just how beautifully precious what we have in London is. Big Ben, the Wheel, Buckingham Palace. The world knows us for these fabulous iconic landmarks. So next time you're walking across Waterloo Bridge or enjoying a journey through the West End, don't forget to look up and take in all the wonder around you. Big Ben is just of the huge engineering masterpieces in our Capital. And there is a whole lot more too appreciate - even for us everyday Londoners.
