Do the Green Thing...

According to the United Nations Population Division, world population hit seven billion this year, and it's forecast to reach nine billion in 2050. It was just three billion in 1960.

That's another two billion people to feed and house. Sheesh, scary hey. Really makes you wonder how we can go on like this without destroying our beautiful planet.

Together though with just a little conscious awareness on the subject we can make a huge difference because it often doesn't take extra effort to help sustain our ecosystem every day ...just a decision to do things differently.

Here are a few tips...

Shop at your local farmer's market ...you'll naturally buy locally and seasonally from ethical farmers who use less pesticides and are kinder to animals ...plus you'll stay away from excessive packaging.

Replace regular light bulbs with energy-efficient ones. This results in lower CO2 emissions because they use less electricity.

Drive less (jump on a bus or train or better still, get on your bike!) If you own a car, have it serviced regularly and consider one of the new hybrid cars; they can significantly reduce CO2 levels and improve fuel efficiency.

Buy recycled products and recycle your rubbish.

Turn lights and electrical items like computers and TVs off when you're not using them. Avoid leaving on stand-by.

Turn off the tap whilst you're brushing your teeth.

Eat more plants and less red meat. Fancy having a Meat Free Monday?

See even if you pick just one of those things, it counts. Taking personal responsibility and tiny steps towards a greener lifestyle, can make a huge difference.

'You have got to take responsibility for the space you hold here.' Oprah

It's worth the effort. Go on Do the Green Thing...
