The All In London Blog

A fantastic new historical iPhone App has just been released in the Apple App Store. 'Pepys' London' uses 21st Century technology to transport you back to 17th Century London.

The App takes you on a fascinating journey through the streets of the capital to explore and discover the sites that Pepys mentions in his Diary. Users are encouraged to use their iPhone to photograph and comment on sites they they have visited and submit them to be included in an ever growing map of user generated photos on the app.

This exciting new app is for anyone interested in history, London or Samuel Pepys, one of the best loved and most famous Londoners of all time. However you don't actually have to be in the city to enjoy this app... using Google's Street View users can explore Pepys' London virtually!

Features include: • An interactive map of London with present day photos of sites mentioned in the diary. Users submit their own photos through their iPhone for inclusion on the map. • A daily 'on this day' update from the diary. A great way to enjoy the famous diary in manageable pieces. • Interactive maps that guide you through the streets that Pepys once trod. Users can follow these tours actually on the ground, or virtually at home. Photos and information about sites is posted along the routes and the Street View option allows virtual tourists to feel like they are actually there! • Lots of links to further reading and information on Pepys. Lots of options to share the content of the app on Facebook and Twitter and the option to 'like' and comment on items.
