THE ARTS: Eleanor Cardozo on creating an Olympic-worthy Bronze...

London Art Scene from The Art Stop

Fancy seeing a stunning piece of art be made from scratch? Then you want to check out the wonderful work of Eleanor Cardozo.

Eleanor is a sculptor, who specialises in creating bronze statues - a brilliant talent she has, which she has incorporated into the exciting summer we have ahead of us with The Olympics.

As a former sportswoman - a gymnast - herself, London-born Eleanor has recently been focusing on making statues of gymnasts. Her work ranges from table-sized minitures to fantastically huge monuments - one of which, at three metres tall, lived in Heathrow's Terminal 5 bulding earlier this year.

Her sculptures demonstrate the delicacy of a gymnast and Eleanor is determined, through her work, to raise awareness of the talent needed to be a good gymnast, especially when preparing for an event like London 2012.

"Artists have a duty within society to raise the quality of artistic skill and subject matter; to inspire and speak to our capacity for delight and wonder," she explains of her work. And Eleanor certainly manages to do this.

If you're interested in seeing more, a collection of Eleanor's work will be on display at Hampstead Theatre from 9 may to 16 June to celebrate their run of the brilliant Chariots Of Fire.

And you can watch Eleanor create one of her masterpieces right here in this very exclusive and enlightening video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00k8PshBoVU
