ART EXHIBITION: Rich Simmons at the Imitate Modern

London Art Scene from The Art Stop

This Thursday, urban artist Rich Simmons brings his inspirational street art exhibition, Just Be You Tiful to London.

Rich set up the Art Is The Cure community in 2008, to get young people from different backgrounds recognising and supporting art as relief. The idea came from his own passion for creativity, which provided a valuable escape from the mild autism he lived with.

“Unfortunately too many people turn to negative releases like self harm, drugs, even suicide,” explains Rich. “Art is an alternative release that can get all of that emotion out of your system but in a positive way. Whether it's painting something, writing, music, drawing, if it involves your imagination and gets out the emotion in a positive way then it is a form of creative therapy.”

Rich learnt his craft though using stencils, copying Pop Art and analysing comics – and then he experimented with the style of graffiti – a style that many have come to appreciate and admire.

These days, he counts the Princess of Azerbaijan as one of his number one fans (she bought an entire show of his work and invited him over to paint in capital city Baku).

...And now, he hosts this exhibition at the Imitate Modern; a showcase of beauty of street art.

See Rich's work at Imitate Modern, 27a Devonshire Street, London W1G 6PN. The exhibition is open to the public from Thursday 11 October, 10am to 6pm (excluding Sundays).
