Kids in London - London Underground rant

London Underground needs a big smack! It's bad enough that over the past few weekends they have been doing engineering work that have pretty much stopped all tubes running to the west of London.

We had to go to South Ken yesterday. The District line only went as far as Earl's Court. Fair enough - so we switched to Piccadilly line. All is ok.

But coming back was a nightmare. Seems that due to "gaps in service" on Piccadilly line they were overcrowded and had to keep stopping access to the platforms. Excuse me for asking but if the District Line is out wouldn't you make extra sure that there were no "gaps in service" on the Piccadilly line????

Also, it's great that kids under 11 travel free with adults on the tubes now. But they don't get a ticket. Which means you have to wait for the barrier gate to be opened to get through. Did they think about the impact this would have on the station barrier staff?

So just about everyone with kids - especially those with buggies and babes in arms - have to wait for the barrier man to let them through. The crush at South Ken yesterday was positively dangerous. All those young kids and buggies crushed together.

Sorry London Transport - if you want families to use public transport you are going to have to do MUCH better. Seriously unimpressed!!!
