Kids in London - Stardust

Having characters like Ricky Gervais and Robert de Niro in the cast helped persuade my 15 year old son to accompany me and my nine year old daughter to see this “kid's film”. And it didn’t disappoint although my son was concerned about Robert de Niro’s reputation after playing a very camp and gay sky pirate in this production.

So. Good storyline – weak guy goes on quest to obtain fallen star in order to win heart and hand of snotty and vacuous fair maiden (played credibly by Sienna Miller) whilst chased by bad witch (Michelle Pfiffer was the real star of the show and morphed from stunningly attractive to horrible hag with aplomb) and rogue King and his six dead brothers.

The fallen star turns out to be Clare Danes – an interesting lead who my son thought attractive although, since Shopgirl, I have referred to as “plain Dane”.

I could tell my daughter was a bit bored towards the end, as the story did tend to go on a bit of ramble. But we all laughed at the goat who was turned into a man – excellent and really funny acting there. Ricky Gervais was, well, Ricky Gervais – I guess he knows what his audience expects. So, a reasonable film and one that was of interest to both young and older children.
