London Gets £20,000 of Free Fuel

Motorists were today queuing to take advantage of a promotion offering £20,000 worth of free fuel at a north London garage.

Electronic Arts took over the Last Stop garage, in Finsbury Park, to promote the new computer game Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The promotion allows drivers to help themselves to £40 of fuel without charge.

More than 150 customers had taken advantage of the offer by 7.30am, with security staff on hand to control the traffic and prevent any trouble.

However, with around 30 cars having queued up, drivers on the other side of the road were caught up in the congestion and car horns sounded repeatedly.

Louise Marchant, from Electronic Arts, explained that the queuing mimicked aspects of the game, saying: "It's set in Venezuela - you play a mercenary and fuel is used as a currency."

She denied that the promotion was irresponsible, emphasising that security officers were ensuring order was maintained.

"Petrol prices are very relevant at the moment, so we are hoping to start everyone's weekend in a positive way," she added.

The promotion will continue until the £20,000 of fuel runs out.

Isn't it nice how free-stuff and money brings out the very worst in humanity?

It's always nice to see the public scrambling around on the floor when publicity stunts - such as this one - shoot a truck-load of fivers out of a money cannon. Really, is it worth losing your dignity for £15?

No wondered this county is up the proverbial creek.
