I'm still not sure whether or not I like Ricky Gervais but both my ten year old daughter and teenage son are fans so it seemed a natural choice for half term.
The film starts with Ricky playing a humourless dentist with a strong anti-social tendency who checks in for a routine operation and finds that subsequently he can converse with ghosts.
Numerous ghosts (some of which are quite funny) start to follow him to help them resolve their earth issues so that they can "move on". One ghost in particular wants to break up his former wife's new love and Ricky, fancying himself as a better match for her, obliges with the obvious conclusion.
It was a good storyline and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments - many of them as a result of Gervais slap stick humour (falling over, gagging at dog smells etc). There was a nice message in there too somewhere - about the need to help others for the sake of being good rather than for something in return. And, of course, the grumpy old lead gets to find humour and love.
Frankly, one of the final lines was my favourite "Remember, only floss those teeth that you want to keep". Harmless fun.
