Ok, so today it’s sunny. But what about when it rains? How about booking the kids into a cooking class under the watchful eye of a French family man Michelin chef while you enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in the adjoining comfortable café in laid-back Fulham.
Having had a seriously good time experiencing the delights of a rather social Saturday night cooking session preparing such favourite delights as thai green chicken curry, tiramisu and portabello mushrooms I noticed that The Kitchen in Fulham organises a series of Kids at the Kitchen events.
For 4-8 year olds (£12.50 a child) there are sessions on picnics, cookie dough, chocolate heaven and even food jewellery. For those aged 9-12 years (£14 per child) there are wrap sessions (rice paper rolls, samosas, tortilla wraps), bread making, cake decorating and pasta making.
For those about to despatch their teenagers off to university to fend for themselves with nothing more than a tin opener and attitude, there is a five session course (£240) which covers knife skills, simple sauce and soup recipes, quick and easy meals, preparing and cooking vegetables, easy breakfasts, making a dinner party menu on a budget.
What a great way for kids to get comfortable in the kitchen – and learn important life skills, an appreciation for good food and a healthy respect for French chefs.
